Color Her World Birthday Party

We celebrated Lauren's 1st Birthday on Saturday with family and friends.

The theme was "Color Her World"

It ended up being really fun and relatively inexpensive.  Since the idea behind the theme was to combine all of the colors of the rainbow, it was easy to pick up things here and there and put them all together for a bright and cheery birthday party!

One of the major  decorations was on the wall in the kitchen where all of our guests were plating their food.  This seems to be the gathering spot for most of my family as well... I simply used crate paper 5 strips of each color and taped them to the wall.

The Lauren banner I made myself by tracing letters and the top of a coffee can for the circles.  I finished off the banner by tying different color/patterned ribbon to the letters.  All of the scrapbook paper I used I already had in my stash at home.

This isn't the best picture I know, but these are paper pinwheels that my husband and I made ourselves.  Yes, you heard me right, my husband.  He is awesome when it comes to helping me with my crazy ideas.  I found a SUPER easy u tube video here.  We Modified ours a little bit by using brads and wooden dowels.  In the vase I have colored pom poms that I always have around for the kids when they want to make art.

So do you remember the other day when I was talking about how awesome my Mom is?  Well, she found a recipe for this jello.  Yup, I told you, AWESOME.  I don't know how it is even possible, but I can't make jello... So, she made it and it was by far the best part of the party.  Thanks Mom!

We also had other food that I don't have pictures of... fruit in all of the colors of the rainbow, pasta salad with veggies all different colors of the rainbow, etc.

These are Lauren's cakes.  In our family it is tradition for the child celebrating their first birthday to have their own cake to dig into.  Lauren's was the rainbow one and boy did she ever dig into it.  It was adorable.  She took eating her cake to a whole new level... Adorable.

Her cake was made by taking a whole box of cake mix and baking it into one 8 inch round pan.  It made it thick and sturdy.  The after it cooled I cut it in half.  I put a crumb layer, put it in the freezer and then started with the colored layers.  The colors came from homemade butter cream frosting (see link below) with Betty Crocker Coloring gel.  The colors were amazing.

The cake to the left was for everyone else.  I used all different colored ribbon and tied them together and glued them on to wooden dowels.  I them put the left over colored frosting at the bottom of the cake to give it a little more color.  It looks like just a normal layered cake right?

BOOM!

This picture doesn't do this cake justice!  You can find the recipe for the cake and frosting here.  I am telling you.  Easy and the frosting is TO DIE FOR!  I will no longer buy store bought frosting because this recipe was sooooo good.  All of the layers came out well the and mixing of the colors was easy.  It cut nicely and the cake was so good!

The party was so much fun and Lauren enjoyed every minute of it and so did we.  I always love when our family gets together to celebrate the little ones birthday.  It can be so magical!

What I Wore Wednesday

I haven't participated in a What I Wore Wednesday is a while... Not because I don't put myself together everyday, because I do.  If I wanted, I could really sit in my pj's all day and it wouldn't matter.  Not kidding!  I don't even have to get out of the car to drop off the kids at school.  Really, it would be easy... and every now and then I am seriously tempted to go "as is" for one day.

Ahem... That being said I was talking to my best friend from college the other day.  We joked back and forth about my WIWW posts...  I really do get ready everyday, it makes me feel better... I have to be honest though, as soon as my husband comes home I go out for my run and from about 5 o'clock on I am in some sort of cozy clothes for the rest of the evening...

Today is my youngest daughter's 1st Birthday.  I thought it was only fitting that she was up at 4:10 this morning eating.  Last year at that time she had just entered into this world.  A little bitter sweet.  The year has flown by too quickly, but I know it is because she is such a happy go lucky baby who has a smile on her face all of the time.  Happy Birthday Lauren Abigail!

We celebrated with family this past weekend and she had a "Color Her World" party.  I will post more about the party later.  Here is What She Wore this week.

Life Lately...

Life Lately....

Has been wonderful...

Has thrown me some curve balls that have me questioning some of the decisions in my life.

My youngest, my last, has her 1st birthday tomorrow and I can hardly believe it.  Where did all of the precious time go?

This is our first spring EVER with neither one of us coaching track.  It's weird but wonderful...It was a great decision that was made for the good of our family...

Marathon training is kicking my rear!  In a good way.  I love it about as much as I hate it.  Can I tell you a secret?  I think I needed this challenge...

I am continually amazed by my children...Their imaginations, what they are capable of...

LNC Designs and this blog continue to challenge me... A little time away and a chat with a good friend sparked the desire to get back on the horse and keep plodding along...

It seems as though this time of year gets me thinking way down deep into my soul.  Maybe it is the Lenten season and the chance to start over with a clean slate...

Has me thinking about forgiveness and acceptance... Is there a difference?

Has me thinking about my family and how blessed this we are to have them surround us everyday.  Especially my Mom.  She is so good to me.  I couldn't "do" life without her.  She makes everyday brighter, easier, funnier.... She is amazing and I am so blessed to have her by my side everyday....

Life lately is good...

Hello Monday

Last week was a week I would love to forget.  We started out with food poisoning from a restaurant that should remain nameless and it only confirmed to me that the food we make and eat ourselves should be the  ONLY food we should eat... It was not pretty!

I am ready to hit the ground running this week... How about some hello's???

Goodbye AWESOME weekend.... The weather was "warm" the sun was shining, and it was such a great sign of things to come.

Hello happy tired kids!  The time change throws their systems off so bad.  It was great that the time change happened and the weather was great.  Maddie was at the dinner table last night asking what meal it was (breakfast, lunch, or dinner) because she was "comfused."  I love 3 year olds!

Hello birds chirping in the mornings... There is nothing better... Spring IS here... For now.... This is Ohio we are talking about.

Goodbye 7 mile run.... You were great to me.  You made me believe that this half marathon will be better than I think...

Hello empty laundry baskets...

Hello Weekly Planning Boards from my shop.  So many people talk about you and like you!  Pick yours up today, you can find them here...

Hello almost 1 year old Lauren... I am planning your "color her world" party and loving every minute of it!

Hello new week and fresh start... I am hoping to start you off on the right foot...

It's your turn... What are you saying hello to this week?

Motivation...

Maybe it is just me, but by this time of the year I find it hard to lace up those running shoes and head out the door.  Once I am out there and my music is in and my heart is pumping I am glad to be out on a run, but I really couldn't do it with out my music.

I know that spring is right around the corner and the road racing season is here presenting us with all kinds of 5K's 10K's and half and Marathons we have signed up for.   I thought that I would share the ipod playlist that fires me up for the training I am doing for the Glass City Half.  Hopefully these songs will fire you up and get your ready for your next road race.
